Generally the commonest and most widespread among Himalayan pheasants. Commoner t lower elevations but recorded up to 3700 m. Found in forest undergrowth, forest edge, cultivation, often in vicinity of streams. Will emerge on road at dawn and dusk. Singly, in pairs or in family parties.
